Victorian Ash and Tasmanian Oak are commercial names applied to what is predominantly eucalyptus regnans. This hardwood of Victorian and Tasmanian regions soars to stately heights of 60 metres plus and is Australia’s tallest hardwood. Whilst its durability rating is not high at Class 3 above ground, it is used extensively for internal fitout product such as lining board, flooring, staircase and furniture. To maintain stability, this timber is quarter sawn making its growth lines easily visible.
Colour varies from the paler ivory and champagne Victorian sourced Ash, to the darker beige and dusty pinks of its Tasmanian cousin. This species is easily laminated and, due to its consistent quarter-sawn lines, it is difficult to distinguish the joins.
